Stack Natin submission round 1 is open
For our first call-out for submissions, we are accepting pieces on the theme of "choices" until 20 March 2025.
This submission round is now closed. Information on the next round will be announced soon.
Well, here we go—phase two of the Stack Natin project: another chance to showcase the best writing from writers of Filipino descent on this platform (and maybe beyond). We are now open for submissions!
The first round of submissions is from today until 20 March 2025. We aim to publish up to three submissions once a month, between April and June 2025.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for your best writing based on the theme of choices. Feel free to interpret that how you wish.
We’re open to the following types of writing:
Creative nonfiction, including personal essays, biographies and criticism
Fiction, including short stories, flash fiction and novel excerpts
How to submit
Make sure that you follow all of these as you submit. Not following all of these guidelines will result in disqualification for this round.
Email your submissions to stacknatin@gmail.com.
The subject line of your email should be either “CREATIVE NONFICTION SUBMISSION” or “FICTION SUBMISSION”, in all caps, depending on which category you submit to.
The body of your email should contain the following:
The title of your piece.
The word count of your piece.
The subgenre of your piece.
A brief synopsis of your piece.
A brief profile of yourself (up to 100 words) including your connection to the Philippines. You can include links to your website or social media presence.
Your submitted manuscript should adhere to the following guidelines:
Your manuscript should be in 12-point type, double-spaced, with sequentially-numbered pages and at least one-inch margins on all sides.
We accept submissions in DOC, DOCX or PDF file formats.
Submission guidelines
Make sure that you follow all of these as you submit. Not following all of these guidelines will result in disqualification for this round.
Submissions will be considered from all writers of Filipino descent, although we will prioritize those who are part of the Stack Natin directory. (You can join the list here.)
All submissions must be written primarily in English and are under 2,000 words. The use of other languages will be allowed if deemed necessary to the submission, although English translations should be provided.
All submissions must be complete. We will not accept any pitches.
All submissions must be your original work and have not been published previously, including on your Substack publication or personal blog.
Only one submission per writer per round will be allowed. If you have been accepted for a previous submission round, please wait six months before submitting again.
If your submission has been accepted, we request exclusive first publication rights for your piece for a period of one month from publication. After this period, all rights will revert to you and you can republish or reuse your piece as you wish.
We accept simultaneous submissions, but let us know as soon as possible if your submission has been accepted for publication elsewhere.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer compensation for your submissions at this time, but we hope to be able to do so in the future.
We aim to respond to your submissions within 4-8 weeks.
If you’re game to take part, we’d be happy to have you over! Send your submissions (and your questions too, if you have any) to stacknatin@gmail.com.
Will all submissions be published? Because it's not a competition and the submissions will not be judged right? As long as they adhere to the theme and the guidelines?
